Trim tabs: The secret to perfect trim

Why trim tabs are indispensable on every motorboat
We water sports enthusiasts know: The water is not a flat highway. Wind, waves, and the weight distribution of people on board constantly influence the boat's attitude. Without the right technical support, the bow is far too high, visibility is restricted, or you experience annoying listing. This not only costs riding pleasure but also uses an unnecessary amount of fuel.
The solution to all these problems is as simple as it is effective: trim tabs. They are the most important tool for significantly improving the handling, safety, and comfort of your motorboat.
Here you will find out why trim tabs are an absolute game changer and why modern electric systems represent the best choice for your boat.
1. Faster planing and perfect visibility
Every motorboat operator knows "the mountain" that the boat has to climb when accelerating before it transitions into efficient planing. In this phase, the bow points steeply into the sky, visibility forward is blocked – which can represent a real safety risk. Trim tabs act like magic here: when extended downward during acceleration, they push the stern to the water surface and thus the bow downward. The result: You reach planing speed much faster, flatter, and with less engine power. The dangerous phase of blind flying becomes a thing of the past.
2. No more listing (correcting side tilt)
Are all your guests sitting on the starboard side? Or is a strong crosswind pushing your boat onto its side? Without trim tabs, you are now driving permanently crooked. This is not only uncomfortable but also forces you to constantly counter-steer. With trim tabs, you can easily compensate for side tilt (heeling/roll). By extending the tabs asymmetrically (e.g., only pushing down the tab on the low side), you lift the boat exactly where it is needed and set it perfectly level.
3. More comfort in rough water
When the water gets choppy, motorboats often start to slam hard into the waves. This is extremely stressful for the crew and equipment. With trim tabs, you can actively trim the bow down. This allows the sharp V-hull in the forward part of the boat to literally cut through the waves instead of slamming hard with the flatter stern area. The ride immediately becomes smoother and more comfortable.
4. Noticeably lower fuel consumption
A boat driving with the correct trim angle has the lowest possible water resistance. It glides more efficiently and the engine has to work less. Due to the permanently optimal planing angle, you can significantly reduce fuel consumption. In practice, savings between 15% and 30% are often cited. The trim tabs therefore practically pay for themselves over the years.

Electric beats hydraulic: Why we rely on Lenco Marine
Many older boats are still equipped with hydraulic trim tabs. These systems are often sluggish, require maintenance, and carry the risk of leaking hydraulic oil into the hull. Modern boats therefore rely on electric trim tabs.
We recommend the electric systems from Lenco Marine to our customers out of conviction. They respond immediately, are 100% waterproof, and do not require messy oil or vulnerable hydraulic pumps.

The smart upgrade (retrofit): Do you already have an old hydraulic system (e.g., from Bennett) that is slowly giving up the ghost or leaking? No problem! With the special Lenco Retrofit Kits, you can upgrade your old system to modern electrics in no time at all. The highlight: The Lenco actuators fit exactly into the existing bolt holes of the Bennett actuators on your transom. No drilling, no filling, no more oil in the boat – simply take off the old actuators, put on the new ones, and you're done.
