Garmin Signal™ VHF 220: Reliable Communication and Safety

The Garmin Signal™ VHF 220 combines proven VHF radio technology with a modern design and smart networking features. It was developed for sailors and motorboat owners who value a clean helm, easy operation, and maximum safety. With its waterproof (IPX7) housing and compact form factor, it is the perfect choice for boats of all sizes.

Important Comparison: Signal VHF 220 vs. Signal VHF 400

Are you facing the decision between Garmin's two top models? The main difference lies in the AIS system. The Signal VHF 220 offered here features an integrated AIS receiver. This means you receive AIS signals from other vessels (range, course, speed) and can display them on your networked chartplotter to avoid collisions. The Signal VHF 400, on the other hand, has an active Class B AIS transponder that also transmits your position to other vessels. The VHF 220 is therefore the perfect and more affordable choice for all skippers who can do without transmitting their own position or who already have a separate AIS transponder installed on board.

Brilliant 3.5-inch Touchscreen

The days of complicated button menus are over. The Garmin Signal VHF 220 is primarily controlled via a high-resolution, colored 3.5-inch IPS touchscreen display. The edge-to-edge glass design not only looks elegant but also enables fast, smartphone-like operation in all lighting conditions.

Integrated AIS Receiver and DSC Class D

Rely on maximum situational awareness. The built-in AIS receiver can be directly paired with your Garmin chartplotter. This allows you to see potentially dangerous approaches at a glance. In an emergency, use the Class D DSC function: one press of the distress button is enough to send an automatic distress call including your exact GPS position (thanks to the integrated GNSS receiver). Via the plotter view, you can also tap AIS targets directly to establish targeted contact.

Smart Audio Functions & Noise Cancellation

It can get loud on the water. That's why the Signal VHF 220 features adaptive noise cancellation, which automatically filters out ambient noise such as engine hum or wind, ensuring crystal-clear transmissions. Missed an important radio message? The practical audio playback function allows you to easily replay missed messages.

Seamless Integration and Easy Updates

Installation is a breeze: only one common VHF antenna is required for radio and AIS reception. The radio integrates perfectly into your onboard electronics via the NMEA 2000® network and the new Garmin BlueNet™. Thanks to integrated Wi-Fi, you can conveniently perform the initial setup, enter the MMSI number, and regular software updates wirelessly via the ActiveCaptain® app on your smartphone.
