Simarine's New Tank Sensors: The Anticipated Game Changer
Share
Super easy to install: Measure through the tank cap!
The biggest nightmare when retrofitting tank sensors is drilling holes in the tank. Every penetration is a potential weak point for leaks and odors. The new Simarine sensors use state-of-the-art micro-radar technology, and the absolutely brilliant thing about it is: for plastic tanks (or GRP), the radar simply measures the fill level through the tank top!
Installation is incredibly simple: No drilling, no screws, no direct contact with the liquid. You simply clean a flat spot on top of your plastic tank, peel off the protective film from the sensor, and stick it on (peel-and-stick). Done!
Since the sensor does not protrude into the liquid, there is absolutely no mechanical wear, no corrosion, and no floats that can get stuck in the holding tank. (Note: A special flange adapter is available for metal tanks, as the radar cannot measure through metal).
One sensor for everything – millimeter-accurate and fail-safe
Regardless of whether it's gasoline, diesel, fresh water, greywater, or blackwater – the radar doesn't care about the content. It non-contact measures the distance to the liquid surface (for tank heights from 15 cm up to 2 meters) and delivers extremely precise and stable values, even when the boat is rocking in waves or the caravan is driving over bumpy roads.
STR1 or STR2: Which sensor fits your system?
Simarine has thought ahead during development and offers the sensor in two variants that can be seamlessly integrated into any existing system on board:
- The Simarine STR1 (Analog & Flexible): The perfect choice for refits and older systems. The STR1 simultaneously outputs multiple signals (0–190 Ohms, 240–30 Ohms, 0–5 V). So you can easily connect it to your existing analog displays or to modern control centers such as the Victron or Simarine .
- The Simarine STR2 (Digital NMEA 2000): Does your boat already have a modern NMEA 2000 network? Then the STR2 is your sensor. It simply connects to the backbone via Plug & Play, and the tank data appears seamlessly on your chartplotter or multifunction display (MFD).
Effortless tank sensor setup via smartphone app
Have you ever tried to manually calibrate a tank with an irregular hull shape? With conventional systems, this is often a frustrating task. Simarine STR sensors have integrated Bluetooth.
You simply open the free Simarine app on your smartphone. In most cases, the sensor calibrates itself completely automatically between "empty" and "full". For complex tank shapes, you can easily perform an extended calibration across various measuring points in the app. A nice side effect: you always have your current fill levels directly on your phone, even if you are not standing in front of the onboard panel.
Simarine tank sensors: An upgrade that pays off immediately
Put an end to inaccurate displays, jammed mechanics, and elaborate tank drilling. Whether you want to make your caravan more self-sufficient or equip your yacht with reliable technology – non-contact radar measurement is the future of fill level control.
Especially the easy installation, the readability directly via the app (you don't even have to install a display!) and the attractive price characterize the new Simarine tank sensors. Due to high demand from easy installation and a perfect price, delivery shortages may occur.
